The hike didn't start out very well... not 500 feet from the car I had a pretty significant fall. I was climbing some 8-10' boulders and when I saw a fissure all the way down one I decided to go over a different one that appeared completely intact. Well, just as I'm pulling myself up the last few feet half of it broke off and crumbled, throwing me down about 6'. Thankfully nothing broken, just a big bruise and some skin shaved off on my left leg and another on my right arm. Although painful, I wasn't going to waste a 90-minute drive out here just to turn around and go home so I continued. But now being so focused on careful foot placement I didn't even think of the pain until back at the car.
My planned route took me to a secondary peak where I was cliffed out so had to backtrack almost to where I fell before circling around the other side, up to a saddle and back down the other side. But once over there, I realized the next peak was still not the right one so had to wind around that one, first dropping down into a ravine then climbing up to the summit. I took photos and the requisite 360 pan video before heading back. Only .5 mile from the car, with all the winding it took me 1.7 miles to reach the summit, and 1 mile to return. Back at the car after more food and fluids I drove to the next peak for the day. |
