| partners | | My fourth of four planned (June-Sept) "5 night/6 day" car camping/hiking/R&R summer heat escape visits to one of my favorite Coconino NF- Mogollon Rim camping and hiking areas (at 7570+ feet elevation with week lows 42-46F and highs only 70-75F). This was my first time stay at this FR398 car camping site. No daily Monsoon rains this trip but very pleasant cooler night and daytime temps associated with my late September timing. 
June through August visits I had much enjoyed devoting significant planning and hiking time exploring and documenting on HAZ all the various Bear Canyon "off trail" day hike and backpack options (south of FR95 to FR300). This fourth, late September'12 trip, was to primarily confirm or deny my previous high expectations that East, West, and Middle Bear Canyon sections held very promising results for excellent Mogollon Rim prime Autumn  Big Tooth Maple and Aspen colors.
In the past, prime Autumn colors in this area of our Mogollon Rim can normally be expected between the second to third week in October which I could have planned for, but my extended camping days in much cooler temps during this period at above 7K' elevation I just really no longer enjoy. Also, I knew from my last year 2011 September six day visit, that our Upper Buck Spring Canyon - Mogollon Rim offered some early nice Autumn Big Tooth Maple colors, so I was in hopes of at least the same for these early Autumn'12 new Bear Canyon area hikes.
Little did I know that my timed trip this ~early Autumn'12 would turn-out to be almost prime season for the numerous Big Tooth Maple in these various "off trail" Bear Canyon hike options
