So after picking me up at the Deer Valley Rock Art Center we were on our way north where spring was evident even from the freeway. there were spots along the road that had large concentrations of poppies and lupines and the hills behind Anthem were splashed with gold. We made it to the Black Canyon City trailhead were we got underway about noon. The sunny morning had given way to mostly cloudy skies as the trail meandered along the hillsides. There were nice views of the surrounding area as well of the river below. At its highest point you could see across the river to the countryside beyond. There were light sprinkles of poppies and lupines along the way. After an hour we arrived at the river which was flowing nicely. We spent the next hour taking pictures and enjoying the solitude. We took the same way back with the sun peeking out from time to time. We got back to the trailhead about 3:30 and headed for the Roadrunner Restaurant for a bite to eat. |
