| no partners | | Rare opportunity to get in a hike/climb in the snow & ice in the Phoenix area. Parked at Mining Camp and hit the trail at 8:00AM sharp. With no traffic on the 202 it only took me 15 minutes longer to get to Mining Camp than it does to get to the trailheads in the White Tanks. So will have to start heading east a little more often.
First half of the hike was pretty uneventful, trail was not too crowded and made great time. Then hit the snow line, the main trail was an iced over, snow packed mess. Made for a great adventure. Picked my way to the top by 10:00, hung out for 15 minutes taking in the view and snapping a few pics. Then pulled out my gloves and got ready for the downhill slide.
Had a couple of nervous moments, but made it down alive. Can't wait to go back later in nicer weather to explore up there again. Plus any trail that starts in the parking lot of a bar can't be all that bad. Finished the hike with a nice IPA at the bar inside of Mining Camp. |
