Took a spontaneous vacation day and met up with Rachel for a hike along the Ridgeline. Our plan was to head up Flatiron and check off Peak 5024 and then head across the Ridgeline to Peak 5057. We would make another quick summit and then return the way we came with a quick stop on Flatiron. After a tremendous amount of work we accomplished all of these goals!

We started from the Mining Camp Restaurant and headed up Flatiron. After some work we reached the saddle and made a quick visit to Peak 5024. I checked the flag and my name is still visible from back in August. We enjoyed the views and then headed back down to the saddle and started on the Ridgeline. We set a good pace and took a handful of pics. Peak 5057 looks like its over ten miles away. We basically agreed to turn around early if neither of us felt up to this journey. We continued on and found ourselves getting closer and closer to 5057. Before long we made the turn and headed up to 5057 where we took a long and much needed lunch.

From there we started our return. This time Peak 5024 looks like it's eons away. The return went fairly smoothly. We stopped for a couple of short breaks and ate snacks along the way. Eventually we reached the saddle and then headed over to Flatiron. By this point both of us are pretty much done hiking. Rachel is a joy when she's tired and sick of hiking. ;) We took one last break at Flatiron and then headed down. We were like a couple of tired tourist heading down. Fortunately we made it down fine except for a little slip by Rachel above the slick rock section. I thought it was going to be bad but Rachel was fine and even continued on with her story like nothing happened. We had a good laugh.

This was a hell of a hike. It really took it's toll on both of us. I'm tempted to say this was the hardest day hike I've done to date. All the ups and downs along the hike really wore us out. Plus it was a sunny day and there is no shade. I'm glad we did this one but not sure I would do it again. It was a lot!
