| no partners | | We started our trip at blue ridge trail head and hiked to dude lake, tried to access the cabin loop trail to loop back to the AZT but snow was 2/3 ft deep, no way to find the trail. Azt was muddy at the top and had tons of snow at the lower section where Fred Haught trail intersects. All forest roads were closed, yeah we should have figured the trails would be "closed" too. Tried to access part of the loop going up forest road 139, that was a tough battle, about every 50 to 100 yards we would have 3 feet of snow on the road and it could extend a quarter mile with some dry patches in between. then another snow patch. Last time we did this hike a few years back we just did the smaller 18 mile loop (cabin loop) same time of year but no snow and perfect weather. Of course water wasn't a problem on the trip. Took a picture of a big cat print sorry I didn't add anything for size reference. Saw a herd of elk and heard turkey calls on two seperate mornings. |
