Amy dropped me a note to let me know that she and her man would be up in the Blue Ridge area and that she wanted to do some hiking. I am down to just a few passages left on the Arizona Trail. However, I am planning on doing it from North to South so I figured now is as good as time as any to get started. My plan was to do both 27 and 28 and Amy was going to do some of 28 as an out and back with me. When we went to meet at the Pine Trailhead to drop off my car, there was a sign saying that the area was closed due to extreme fire hazard. We resorted to plan be and just did 28.
On the way out from dropping my Jeep at General Springs trailhead we ran into Tewa walking down the road. He was on his way to the "That Brewery" (formerly the Rim Cafe and Grill)after a couple days of long hiking. We gave him a lift down the road to Hwy 87 and off we went.
For the hike we had overcast most of the way and got a very light sprinkle about halfway. This is my first passage heading North to South. 16 down and 811 to go!
P.S. I am open to shuttle help, key exchanges or whatever works to get the job done with anyone else doing the AZT. |
