After meeting at the north trailhead at 6 am, we shuttled down to the south trailhead at General Springs to begin our hike. The first 3 miles on the Fred Haught Trail were just as beautiful as I remembered. Most of the rest of the Blue Ridge segment was new to me. Saw a little trail maintenance sign from 1998 on a fence along the way, turns out my uncle (Billiam) and friend Vic were on that crew. The last stretch from Moqui Campground to Highway 87 had a special meaning to me, as it had been the first bit of the AZT I had ever hiked on, back in June of 1997. After our perfect hike, we picked up Nick's truck then drove south to the Beeline Cafe in Payson for a post hike dinner. 'Twas a fine adventure! |
