As a family we started coming out here in 1983 going all the way to the Verde River. In 2005 this area was closed to vehicle trafic which was a good thing since it was getting heavy use. Either before it closed or right after a fire came though. My wife and I have been coming out here quite a lot and have been telling our son about it. He moved to Seattle last year and was coming home for his B-Day and said he wanted to go out to Indian Spring.
He also spent much of his time out here sans parental guidance...ahem....and was impressed with it's recovery.
Hiking the wash north for about 2.5 miles will bring you to the saddle, the spring box is a couple hundred yards to the east in a wooded draw. From there if one wants to it's 3.9 miles down the wash to the Verde River at an area between Bartlett and Horseshoe.
This wash is a great hike in early morning or in the evening. |
