| no partners | | @Alston_Neal put this area on my radar years ago, @Muskybankr made me push it off.
I've wanted to do this Wash/Canyon from Bartlett Road to the Verde for sometime. Alston and Musky reported having to push though a forest of bamboo. I encountered the forest, but there were easily accessible routes around it, while staying in the canyon.
Fall has come to the area. Quite pretty.
Hiking in this Wash/Canyon way easy in mostly compacted gravel. I reached the Verde in a little over 2 hours. I climbed a little rock outcropping to get better views of the Verde [ youtube video ] .
On the return trip, I hit up a few side canyons to do some 'splorin'. Nothing interesting until I hit up the slot canyon that goes towards the "Springs" on the Topo Map.
First this slot canyon is really sweet. It's tight and ends at a 40' pour, so no way to get to the "Springs" from here. Next, my excitement for the day. I'm heading into this slot canyon that's about 20' wide in most spots. Just before you go into the cave like area, it opens up a bit. I surprised a squadron of 20+ Javelina. I watched them scamper up the only possible area to go up in this canyon. Except for one that I did not see, 10' to my right. It that felt the need to go the opposite direction, right past me. Color should be good here for the next couple of weeks. Great weather all day. |
