Bummer, it has been inspiring to see the desert return from the very heavy use and the fire. Sunday we decided to go out and see if it had been opened to vehicles....Nope!!! Yeah!!. We were heading up the wash and noticed that forest road signs had been placed and a small tractor had made trails...fug! Just under a mile up we came upon a side trail #1117 that went up another wash we've always wanted to do, so what the heck. A little tractor had made a path awhile back because it was well eroded and stuff was already growing in the trail. Let's do this maybe our last time and see where it goes. About another mile in pieces of metal caught my eye. Aircraft parts. So we explored the area and found more bits. Came back to work and went to the Aviation Archeology site with no success. I went to GE and in a direct line down the runway from Carefree Airport and 12.8 miles lies the site.
We headed on up the trail for views of the Verde valley and then headed toward Indian Butte, looping back cross country to Indian Springs Wash. |
