Right at the start we had a bonus of a bull snake on the trail that freaked out another hiker until we told her it was not a rattler. Of course Finger Rock was very steep but we made it up in about 3 and half hours to beat the heat. The views on Kimball are awesome with a steep drop off on three sides and perfect place to sit enjoy an adult beverage and lunch. We spent almost 2 hours on top because the views are that good….and there was another beer in the pack
After lunch we headed back down….the others decided to go back down Finger Rock but I headed over to Pima Canyon. The top part of Pima Canyon is really nice…lots of trees, great views of Table Mtn and impressive Pusch ridgeline. Once past Pima Saddle the trail drops quickly into the main part of Pima Canyon and again did not disappoint. Lots of trees, cottonwoods, a few pools and definitely more water than I was expecting. Eventually the trail levels out some and the terrain turns to Sonoran desert. On the desert part was lucky enough to see a Gila Monster that I nearly steeped on and he gave me good hiss before moving on his way. Highlights of the hike were the views off Mt Kimball and the upper part of Pima Canyon Trail. |
