| partners | | We had the goal in mind to do the full length of the McDowell's and decided on south to north. So we started at the Sunrise TH and with a fast trail we made good time up and over Sunset Peak and down to the Ringtail Trail. From there we took the Old Jeep Trail through the Lost Dog area which was nicer than we thought it would be. The trail traverses along several wash crossings and each one had some poppies....the flowers are starting to come out We continued over to the Lost Dog Trail where it ends at the beginning of the Quartz Trail.
We took the Quartz Trail over to Paradise Trail and eventually to Bell Pass Trail. The Quartz and Paradise Trail are not the most exciting as it meanders through the housing development even though it's still on desert trail. Fortunately the section is short and makes its way back into the main part of the preserve. We continued on the Paradise Trail over to Bell Pass Trail and then up to Bell Pass....more poppies on this section. It was on the Bell Pass Trail steep sections that we were reminded summer is coming
From Bell Pass it was down to the Windmill junction and then up East End Trail to the Tom's Thumb Trail. As usual the Tom's Thumb area is awesome and probably the best part of the McDowell's. After a short break on top we headed down to the Tom's Thumb TH to the vehicle we left earlier that morning. |
