I managed to gather 7 friends and coworkers and neighbors and sucker them into following me out into the woods for a Full Moon hike last night.

I led them carefully along the old Grandview Hotel road and deep into the woods where they were briefly educated on the area and where the "ruins" we were walking around came from and why they were torn down and all that fun stuff...They were actually interested and kept asking questions!! I was in Heaven!! :D

I led them to the old Hearst Tanks and from there to one of the most beautiful and secluded lookout rocks I've seen out here, I know there are tons but this one is special to me....when I sit on it and stare out at the moonlit canyon I am reminded that 100+ years ago miners and tourists would park their horse drawn carriages then they would come to this exact spot and stare at what I'm seeing now...and even before that I bet the Natives would spend time there but maybe we'll never know that.

We spent some time sitting in a circle on the Old Hotel Lookout Rock as I call it and in silence and darkness I would point out bats as the flew by, the few stars and constellations we could see despite the bright moon. The canyon was so bright from the moon that I could easily point out a few landmarks.

I was bewildered, for most of these kids being in their early 20's they were incredibly respectful and mindful and they asked intelligent questions about the area and the history and even about old Pete Berry's mine when I mentioned it!! I will definitely be taking this group out again!! :D

After we departed the hotel I decided to give them one more treat...5 of us piled into my suby, the other 3 piled into one guy's Cadi and we set off East toward the old Grandview Lookout Tower to catch a glimpse of the Canyon from far above the forest top with the moon lighting every tree from above...it was perfect. I can't wait until the next full moon!
