So my mangers managed to give me a weekend off for ONCE and I really just wanted to "get away" and be alone this weekend. I left the Village early Friday after being kicked out of work for being far too awesome and hopped down to Williams.

I totally had to stop at the Safeway to buy a new DVD and I ran into this awesome gal there! Well, I knew she was awesome because she had a HAZ ride!! Turns out this was LittleKnee and she was meeting her other half down toward Payson, so I managed to convince her to carpool with me, poor gal, I'm glad she likes listening to Journey, Don't Stop Believing was stuck on repeat again....for TWO HOURS.

An hour and a half and a good 370 "Don't Stop" repeats later we pulled into a seemingly empty campsite only to have our space invaded within moments by none other than Chumley, 9L, JonnyBackpack and the rest of "Team Buford" and then NotJulia and Girl-Tim, oh and Aviator was lost in the woods somewhere too. :o

Great there goes my lonely weekend and solitude!

Turns out we all had the same idea for our weekend, good old Outdoor Lover seems to have started some sort of trend, we all just had to get into the Box for ourselves and see what this Hanging Gardens was all about...the previous photosets weren't detailed enough, we really didn't know what to expect.

At the crack of dawn Saturday morning we all piled into the back of Chumley's truck (except Liz and Tim, they drew the short straws and had to ride their bikes...) and made excellent time at top speed down to the "trail head", a hop skip and a jump later we were at "camp".

I was well ahead of everyone else and made sure to offer up some beers to these two guys who were camped in OUR SPOT...when they saw the rest of our boisterous crew come swaggering around the bend, they quickly moved along.

It was a MISERABLE night Saturday, ugh we were all freezing cold and soaking wet after HOURS of swimming and "hanging" at the Gardens, the night temps down there must have been in the mid 70s! Absolutely horrid. And this fire restriction!!! :pk: :yuck: :x :tt: [-(
Luckily someone got smart and managed to "roast" some MASSIVE marshmallows over a little propane stove....pure genius!

I was first one awake sunday morning, ah, the birds were singing, a slight breeze gently rocked Tim in his hammock, even better, from Camp Hippy high up on the hill I could even hear fish jumping and the craws dadding.
Being ever so careful not to wake Uncle Chumley I crept down to the creek and splashed to my delight, right about then is when Jonny B woke up and made us biscuits and gravy, Daisy seemed to enjoy that too!

After some more playing in this hideous "Hanging Garden" area we all departed in a single file, quite orderly fashion.
Uncle Chumley carried all the floaties, JonnyB carried the dog on his back, I carried 2 melted snickers bars and Lizzard brought back a bucket of crawdads, a very productive weekend!!

The long swims, water holes and pools were fun, but after Aviator and Tim climbed and completed about a 100 foot cliff jump we decided to move on to "The Box" where JonnyB and "Team Buford" wanted to see what damage they could do at the Rope Swing...turns out only damage done was to Backpack's leg... :stretch: They were THIS CLOSE to carrying him out on the giant turtle floatie...

Then came the climb out...it's STEEP, but short, it's SCREE-EE, but with plenty of "steps", it's HOT, but there were a few shadey trees. 9L and I raced up with Uncle Chums close behind.

Beers and bug spray were had once we reached the truck and we were off, along that lovely, though slightly bumpy, road.

Note to self: next time, bring more snickers!

LittleKnee and I parted ways with "our men", we can't blame the boys for crying a little, we know how much they'll miss us. Then she and I decided to visit Meteor Crater...I mean, it's pretty much on the WAY to Flagstaff anyway.
Once in Flag we treated ourselves to some NiMarcos, I dropped her off in Williams and headed home.
I don't know who missed me more, the Canyon or the ice cream in my freezer.

Was great to meet Aviator and LittleKnee (yes, she has little knees!) and great to see Chumley somewhere other than at Boulders. So...same time, same place next year?
