I had originally planned to climb O'Neill butte today after work but my climbing buddy bailed so I opted for a more original plan and set off to continue my search for Hance's Cabin.

I went over my maps again and figured out where I was off last time. I parked just west of Old Hance TH and crossed the road and headed off into the woods, I knew the old "Hance Road" (some call it Buggeln Rd??)) was just a few yards away so I felt pretty confident in my location this time.

Within minutes I happened upon barbed wire stretching across for some length, I'm sure if I had time to follow it around it would create an entire perimeter of some sort, it was in great condition...for barbed wire anyway...

There was am old school aluminum can graveyard, a ten foot long tree trunk that had been chopped down (way back in the day!) and turned into a gate of some sort with hinges attached.

Pretty sure I found something here! If it's not Hance's Cabin then it MUST be the remains of the Buggeln Hotel! (which was right next door so either way...:y: )
I'd like to return when I have more daylight and a hiking partner to compare everything with my maps and see what exactly I've found this time.

I DID however find what I am pretty sure is the old Howe's Tank (or Howe's Well??) it's dry...but large and must fill up sometimes or enough for critters to drink from because there is a very well worn game path leading right up to it...

I crossed the old Hance/Buggeln Road and walked along another dirt road for a moment where I found a small sign reading "E12" ??? Looks old enough but I haven't read anything in all my research about E12...??
Maybe it's what NPS calls the road?? If you walk along that for a bit you'll start seeing old bottles and cans on the left and then a large "bump", an old rubble pile, probably the remains of an old barn or small Miner's "house"....judging by the map and labels on it (the one from 1941) it COULD be the remains of Hance (or Buggeln's) old barn...

Again, I'd like to make one more trip out to figure out exactly what everything is, seeing as I only found one defined set of "foundation" in the main area I believe that to be Buggeln Hotel and I don't think I've found Hance's Cabin yet, from what I've heard and read the tree stumps that defined the front of Hance's Cabin are STILL THERE....I didn't see them....this time.

Third times a charm!!!
