| no partners | | Karen's first trip west of the Mississippi started with a plane flight to Denver and a short trip to Estes Park, where we stayed in a tiny cabin next to the river. Our first day would be through Rocky Mountain National Park on our way through the state in an 8 day loop that would be mostly new ground for me as well.
We entered the park, with killer views of snow-capped Longs Peak in the distance, and she was blown away. The air was cool and the visibility was incredible as we parked at the Bear Lake Trailhead and started up. At .5 Nymph Lake appeared, it's surface like glass, then at 1.1 came Dream Lake, equally picture-perfect. Finally at 1.8 we reached Emerald Lake, which, depending on the time of day, is exactly that. My pictures do no justice.
We headed back and hit the road, having a snowball fight in July at one of the high passes.
Not bad for Day One. |
