Located at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula that divides Lake Huron from the Georgian Bay, the little town is considered by many to be the launching point for the best SCUBA in North America. Numerous shipwrecks rest below crystal clear Caribbean blue water, and the shorelines numerous caves above and below water add variety. Neither of us SCUBA, but we had to check out some of the shoreline we had seen. (Any excuse for a romantic getaway)
Some of the best stuff was to be seen at the Cypress Lake Area, so we chose to take the Georgian Bay Trail for 1.2 miles out to intercept the Bruce Trail, Canada's oldest and longest foot trail at 560 miles. We wandered for about another 1.3 miles and checked out the wild rock ledges and finally The Grotto. We had a picnic, looking out over the water, and I knew I was going to have to come back and see a lot more of this Bruce Trail. We returned on the Marr Lake Trail, making our roundtrip 3.7 miles, and drove back to town, where our empty hotel on the water awaited. Not being diving season, the place was like a ghost town. |
