| no partners | | After checking out Colorado National Monument outside of Grand Junction (incredible, but no hikes on this trip), Karen and I drove up and over Grand Mesa, the 500 square mile mesa just outside of town with over 200 lakes on top. From redrock desert to snow in the shadows in about an hour. From there we headed toward the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, where we hiked the Warner Point Trail, short but scenic. The canyon itself is narrow and deep (2,722'), and contains the tallest sheer face in Colorado, the Painted Wall, at 2,250' vertical.
The sun was blazing and we were looking for something cool after the hike. Lo and behold, an aluminum trailer near the park entrance had Root Beer Floats on the menu, and we jumped at the chance. The best we have ever had. |
