| no partners | | Cruising down FH3 today when something caught my eye. Coulda sworn that was a huge telescope! That's weird. I only know of Lowell, Kitt, and Graham as telescope sites. A quick trip to explore along with a web search resulted my introduction to the Discovery Channel Telescope which went active just last year, April 2012. I had no idea.
It's the 5th largest telescope in the lower 48! Google it for the details, but it's a partnership between Lowell and Disco. Neat! Nobody up there today, but I might enjoy meeting some of the folks who run it sometime. It's just off the highway, and though the access road is closed, the hike up is straightforward and easy. And the views to the south and west from up there are endless. |
