| partners | | A nice hike up to the top of Kendrick. It was 67-degrees up top and there was a great cool breeze all day. The higher up the greener it got, with lots of ferns and aspen providing ample shade.
There's 22 switchbacks (11 pairs) to get to the cabin, and 12 more annoyingly short ones up the final slope to the tower. But all those switchbacks make for a very consistent climbing grade the whole way.
I was contemplating taking Pumpkin down but wasn't able to coordinate a shuttle so returned back the main trail. Other than Bob and Denny taking Bruno for a walk, we saw only one other couple on the trail all day. The tower was still manned despite the wet July, and there was a good-sized fire visible south of the canyon that is being allowed to burn for resource management.
Took off at 10:45 made it up in 2 hours and 15 minutes. After a half hour break between the tower and the cabin, headed back down arriving at the car at 3:00. |
