| partners | | From our campsite at Sunrise Junction, we had under 3 miles to get to the top of Half Dome. We started after 7, much later than we had originally hoped, but were still at the cables in about an hour, and with the cables to ourselves, the ascent to the top took only between 10 and 15 minutes.
We passed a handful of hikers who had ascended under the full moon, staying at the top for sunrise, and were then on their way down the trail as we were headed up. Early morning is definitely the time to be here!
Up top, there was a small group of people who had gotten there at around 3am, consumed a few adult beverages, and then passed out after sunrise. Seems like it would have been a pretty fun adventure!
Hippy and Larry and I spent about an hour on top before heading back down to our camp for a well-earned rest!
Having never done this before, the cables were a breeze. No problems, no fear. Just plain fun. The hike up subdome is actually the more difficult and strenuous part of the hike.
I might have a different opinion if I had to fight other people on the cables, but since we were the only ones both ascending and descending, it couldn't have been a more pleasant experience! Awesome trip! |
