| no partners | | They let me free from work half day and I already had my pack and clothes in my cruiser. What else is their to do on a Friday mid-day but hike.
I was surprised to see a car at area 7 usually the park is empty mid day during the summer. I considered doing the loop but I already had plans that evening and didn't want to push it.
Everything was normal for a mid day hike at the white tanks it was hot and sunny perfect weather for a nice tan and mild dehydration.
It actually cooled off a few degrees once I reached goat camp trail. Not much but a noticeable difference.
After coming off the bajada trail and reaching the road I decided to take the short cut and follow the asphalt back to my car. I could hear an ambulance the entire time. The hikers car I saw earlier had been taken to the hospital. I only know this because a Maricopa ranger vehicle had pulled up to me asking if I was ok. The guy said " we already took one hiker to the hospital" I assured him I was fine for the 3 mile jog back to my car.
For a hike that is usually 1/2 the distance I do it had really drained me that day for some reason. It might have been because I was wearing the lime green bandana instead of the fluorescent. |
