ATTEMPTED TO HIKE FROM THE WOODBURY T.H TO THE CLIFF DWELLINGS IN ROGERS CANYON ON A THUNDERSTORM MORNING. RAINS WERENT TOO BAD, BUT STILL GOT ME SOAKED FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRE HIKE.. HEARING THE THUNDER RIP THROUGH THE CANYONS OF THE SUPERSTITIONS ADD A WHOLE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE AS IT ECHOES AND CAUSES A GREATER BOOMING SOUND... IT CAUSED A GREAT BREAK FROM HIGH TEMPS THOUGH, I WOULD SAY TEMP WAS SOMEWHERE HIGH 70'S TO LOW 80'S AT THE START AROUND 10AM. A FEW THINGS TO ADD FOR INFO..THE TRAIL SIGN FOR THE WOODBURY TRAIL THAT CONNECTS TO ROGERS TROUGH T.H. IS NO LONGER THERE BUT IS MARKED BY A CAIRN. AND ONCE AT THE WINDMILL THE JF TRAIL ALSO IS MARKED BY A CAIRN JUST NORTH OF THE WATERHOLE WHICH YOU SHOULD SEE ON YOUR LEFT WITH ALOT OF COW DUNG ALL OVER THE PLACE. I SEEN SEVERAL HURDS OF COW ON THIS HIKE. SO I HEADED ON THE JF TRAIL FULL SPEED AHEAD, AND REACHED TORTILLA PASS ABOUT AN HOUR AND HALF LATER. MOST OF IT UPHILL. NOW ONCE CONTINUING ON ROGERS CANYON TRAIL (110) YOU CROSS A GATE AND AFTER GOING BACK DOWN THROUGH THE CANYON TO THE CREEKS THE TRAIL IS SEVERALLY OVERGROWN! IT GOES TO A NICE TRAIL TO STRAIGHT BUSHWACKING, AND THOSE BUSHES DO THE WACKING BACK AT YOU...AFTER GETTING CHEWED UP BY THORNS FOR A GOOD 15 MINUTES STRAIGHT I SAID THE HELL WITH THIS AND TURNED AROUND. I FIGURE NEXT TIME I'LL COME UP HERE WHEN ITS NOT RAINING AND JUST HEAD UP 172A TO ROGERS TROUGH T.H. AND HIKE IT FROM THERE. I WAS PROBABLY JUST SHY OF A MILE TO ANGEL BASIN WHEN I TURNED AROUND...BUT IF YOU HIKE THIS BEWARE...I THINK IT WOULD BE SMART TO BRING A MACHETE WITH YOU, DEFENATLY WEAR LONG PANTS!

ANOTHER THING REGARDING THE ROAD 172 TO EITHER TRAILHEADS, I WAS DRIVING UP TO IT WITH 4X4 AND GOT STUCK ON COUPLE OF OCCASIONS...A PART WHERE THERE WAS A CATTLEGUARD AND THE DIRT JUST BEFORE IT HAD SUNKEN OR WASHED AWAY INTO THE CREEK WHICH YOU CROSS SO IT LEFT THE CONCRETE STICKEN UP ABOUT A FOOT, WHICH NO CAR OR EVEN 4X4 COULD GET OVER, WHICH THEN REQUIRED TO DRIVE ON THE SAND WHICH A 2WD COULD GET STUCK VERY EASILY...JUST SO YOU KNOW THE ROAD IS PRETTY ROUGH, IT WAS ALOT ROUGHER THAN THE ROAD UP TO BROWNS PEAK.
