Third day of our journey, basing ourselves out of the Slot Canyon Inn, a few miles west of Escalante. Today was a relaxation / get to know the area day. First order of business, after a great breakfast, was to drive down Hole-in-Rock Rd. to Devils Garden. It was wash-boardy in spots, but not bad, and I was able to do 35-45 mph most of the way. Caution on a few blind curves, and there are two abrupt wash-crossings, which even AWD/4WD vehicles should take slow. Basically, it also served as a test drive for tomorrow's intended main event in Davis Wash, some 38 miles further down the road. Especially since I was worried about my tire pressure. No way I wanted to get stranded, even though I was somewhat prepared. (We had a "survival kit" of two dozen waters, a dozen Gatorades, duct tape, shovel, TP, first aid kit, a dozen energy bars, blanket, and some other stuff I can't think of off hand.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfZ8yBCkSLE is a great time lapse of the entire 50+ mile drive to the end of Hole-in-Rock Rd., at the Hole itself.

Devils Garden had some really neat formations, and frankly I am surprised there have not been more Haz visits, especially since it is short enough that it is easy to fit another activity into the day. In our case, we spent 90 minutes wandering about, beneath and on the hoodoos. We could have spent even more time, wandering further south in the wash, as many people did. Instead, we headed back into Escalante to visit the "Everettt Ruess Days" art fair on 100W street. Not much evidence of ol' Everett, or even things about him, but it was a relaxing little fair, with music and food stands. (Everyone raved about the green chile burgers.) We bought some Ruess block prints, a small wood chest, and some jams/jellies. No pics of the fair -- they were on my iPhone. Also, no beer, but that's cool: When in Rome ... :)
