While the 6.0 miles distance is probably close, the only way this is 100 AEG is *maybe* if you stay in the creek bottom. Otherwise there are a probably a half dozen small up & downs in each direction. So, more like 400-500 AEG. Still no big deal. I briefly looked up a draw, so that's my extra AEG. Note, though, that the canyon plays hell with GPS readings, as my Garmin 60csx told me I hiked 8.20 miles and 1853 AEG! :-k You should see the track: It goes as much side-to-side as it does up canyon. You would think I had climbed up to all the granaries. Except I did not spot a single one of them.

There are numbered posts along the trail. They are not distances. (You have not hiked 14 miles one way! :D ) Instead, they are interpretive markers. Make sure you bring a brochure with you from the info kiosk so that, unlike me, you understand what you are supposed to be looking at. ;)

The hike is more difficult that you would expect given the distance and AEG due to most of the hike being in very soft sand. Honestly, I had an much easier time hiking across the dunes east of Dance Hall Rock the day before. (Hey! Where's the sweaty face icon? :D )

The Falls themselves were awesome. I could tell I was getting closer, as the vegetation became more dense and lush, plus the temperature dropped and the wind increased, as the Falls are powerful enough to create their own microclimate! There were maybe 8-10 people there when I arrived, including a group of Aussies. I was the only one to get in the pool, and my poor iPhone paid the price, as I forgot it was in my pants pocket. It did not work then, did not work later, did not work after it dried out, did not work after I hooked it to the recharge cord, did not work at the Apple Store and since data is stored on the phone itself, I was SOL on all the stills and video I had shot over the past four days.

I headed back out at just the right time, as a horde of foreign tourists, from all parts of the globe, were headed up trail as I departed. If the pattern holds, you will want to depart the TH no later than 10:30 to avoid a similar rush. Despite this being my sixth hike in five days, I was *feeling* it : rambo : , returning quicker than I departed. In fact, I was the first person back to the TH.

Lunch was at the Kiva Koffee House a bit south on Utah 12, overlooking the canyon. Service was slow, but the smoothies were delicious.
