| no partners | | Got here planned on diving with sharks. Only snorkel tours, but crossed this off the bucket list. I have never had to swim so far and fast as I did on this day. It is pretty amazing swimming with the largest fish in the ocean. The small ones were larger than our 26 foot boat. The routine was spot, jump overboard and kick like crazy. A couple were nice enough to turn around when I lost them. I watched them, while attempting video, and taking still shots. Videos and pictures to follow when I get a decent connection. My wife and father had difficulty keeping up on this trip most of the others on the boat got only glimpses, I ended up with about 15 minutes of video and stills. Note to self do not play 80's music identification game on 2 hour bus ride home for shots of tequila especially if you are a child of the 80's. It will not end well. YOU WILL NOT ENJOY THE NEXT DAY! You will be reminded of everything you don't remember and there are sand fleas on the balcony where you will sleep. Lesson Learned! (Sort of).
Before the tequila game one of the most amazing outdoor experiences in my life.
The first video is the longest 3 min. I followed it when it came out of the water by the boat and back in.

Almost forgot we stopped by the Hotel California in Todos Santos on the way back. The history of the place is interesting even if you don't believe the Urban Legends that have popped up around the place for obvious reasons. It was built in 1947 by a Mr. Wong who changed his name to Antonio Tobasco to fit in with the locals. He turned it into a hotel in 1952 and continued living there with his 7 daughters. His new name never took as everyone called him El Chino. It is adjacent to the Mission Church of Pilar and the mission bells are heard daily. The place is reported to be haunted with voices in the hallways and since it is a non developed artisan community it has been a popular place for ex pats and hippies who have grown marijuana there for decades (colitas). It also is only accessible by an hour drive from Cabo or La Paz on a desert highway with no towns in between. Mr. Tobasco was the first person to bring ice to Todos Santos and became very popular for this reason. He also had an attractive woman who ushered men into his bar in the hotel. Her name happened to be Mercedes. According to the internet Mr. Henley has reported that neither he or any members of the band ever stayed there and the song was not about a place. |
