| no partners | | Recon for some weekend snowshoeing with the family and an eye for the doability (I know made up word) of a winter ascent/loop of Sentinel Point. I've had my eye on this peak since I did Dome Rock. It's around 12,500' and is said to have great views of the area and backside of Pikes Peak. This was the first hike this year entirely in snow. In fact, I broke trail in VFF's in about a foot of dry snow with poor Muesli bringing up the rear in snow up to his shoulder(which was giving him troubles). We were trying to get above the treeline, but turned around and came back the way we came. Part of the trail follows the Ring the Peak trail so we chipped a little more off of that trail as well. The falls could be heard, but were covered in snow. A fun little afternoon hike. I'll be back with my snowshoes and probably without Muesli to get Sentinel Point.  |
