| no partners | | My brother in law has been bugging me to do the Incline. The gutter people postponing until yesterday to finish work the previous owner paid for thwarted my big plan and we have family visiting for the rest of the time. Anyway, I agreed on the condition we added some side sightseeing to the hike. Finally found a free place to park on the other side of town, but it goes past several of the 11 public Springs for which Manitou got it's name. Manitou was basically a victorian spa in it's heyday. Some of the most notable springs pictured in the photoset have been restored. They all have different mineral content, but most are naturally carbonated and quite tasty. They are free to the public so I brought a couple gallon bottles and took some home. There is info. on Mineral content etc. at this link:

So we sampled a few on the way up and caught a couple on the way back to the car. Didn't get up the incline any faster than last time so I punished myself by running the Barr Trail down.
It took me less time to run the 3 miles down than it did to do the mile up. Good day nice to get out with Kris and it was interesting to learn a little more history of the area.
All the springs were flowing except the Ute Chief Springs. I'm drinking some Stratton Springs right now! |
