Tried to find a nice loop for brother in law to do besides his swim workouts that was safe for him as a new hiker and minimized the chances of him getting lost as I might get in trouble if that were to happen. :o He has been up Mt. Esther a couple of times and there are several forks going to Green Mountain Falls any one of which could be problematic. Decided to go the other direction and he could catch up with the Pikes Peak highway and follow it back down to Cascade. No exposure going down that way. It was very foggy today so views were not spectacular. A lot of flowers blooming with all the recent rains. Everything was going as planned and he felt comfortable with the route until we almost got down to the toll booth. A pikes peak highway employee vehicle pulled over and told us there is no hiking on the highway. [-X I asked her where the sign was posted and why it wasn't anywhere on the internet. She had no answer. Muesli, Kris, and I were forced to ride down to the toll booth where we were let out to finish the loop. I asked her how it was that people were connecting from Manitou to Crowe Gulch via the Rim to Peak and she had no idea. (Idiot icon please)There is a sign below the toll booth stating no hiking beyond this point, but in looking on their website etc. I could find no reference on the internet. I provided them some feedback on their comment section and they can try to give me another ride when I come off the old mining road and walk down the highway 200 yards to connect to Crowe Gulch. :gun: Otherwise I will look up the easement distance and walk just out of the easement since it cuts through national forest. :) Anyway, that won't be an option for him, but he is headed off to Az. in a couple of weeks. Nice temps and enjoyable hike.
