Started down the South Kaibab at 5am through the foggy inversion layer. It was difficult to see with a headlamp, had to hold it down by my waist. 26 degrees at the trailhead but it warmed up to mid 30s pretty quick.
My first time on the Clear Creek trail. Nice trail, easy to follow, similar to the Tonto trails. The official trail ends at Clear Creek but there's a good use trail continuing up the creek (and probably down as well) to the ruins and probably to Cheyava Falls but I only went to the main ruins. I wanted to go to Cheyava but didn't have enough time. It would probably make more sense to go when the falls are running anyways. Because of the cloud cover, the temps were nice all day for hiking. 41-44 degrees until the sun came out at 2:30 and then it only got to 55. Love hiking in the cooler weather, only drank 1 liter all day. |
