Received the invite from Lee for Clear Creek in the GC and we were all set. Unfortunately 36 hours before the hike I came down with the flu but by Thursday morning departure day I thought the worst was over and decided to give it a go.

Day 1
John, Lee, and I started down the South Kaibab from the annex and made good time to Phantom with John and Lee taking Miner's Route while I continued on the SK. We met up at Phantom taking a lunch break and loading up on water for a dry camp in Sumner Wash near the start of a Brahma Attempt the next day. We arrived in camp around 4pm and settled in for a cold first night.

Day 2
Next morning the plan was for Lee and I to make a Brahma summit attempt, however, lingering affects of flu were getting the best of me and told him I'd have to pass. So we decided to continue on to Clear Creek and camp along the creek. We arrived about noon and while John and Lee ventured upstream of Clear Creek I decided to take it easy in camp all afternoon and try to rest up. After a restful afternoon they returned little after 4pm and we hung out in camp enjoying a much warmer night than the first. Party lights were in full effect with our cool camp spot underneath some cottonwoods. Lee and I discussed making another run at Brahma the next morning.

Day 3
Getting a somewhat early start we headed out back to Sumner Wash and the Brahma start point while John stayed back at Clear Creek to explore the canyon more. Lee and I arrived at Sumner and setup quick camp and then headed off for the first obstacle the redwall break. Unfortunately I completely forgot about the triplog reports of going right side up the crack looking for cairns and Mr T so we ended up wasting 45 minutes going nowhere. Almost defeated we noticed the cairns and found the easier and correct way up the redwall break. I was still feeling some lingering affects from flu so Lee continued on for more exploration while my goal was simply to make to top of the redwall break. Waited for Lee at the top and once he got back to the redwall saddle I headed down back to camp. The last night at Sumner was even warmer and we enjoyed some star watching before turning in.

Day 4
Next morning we started at sunrise, then hit Phantom to fill up on water and then the grind out the SK to the rim. Nice and cool hiking out with overcast conditions and breezy. Great trip despite battling the flu. Thanks for getting the permits Lee!
