Trail part was no issue and the winter wonderland started soon after the hike began. As we gained elevation the snow got deeper and trees became more coated with ice and snow. Really cool to see some of the trees with cool ice/wind sculptures on them. We eventually reached the saddle and began the steep climb up the chute. There was talk of just doing Brown's because of the deep snow but the decision was made when we hit the first exposed rock face. The face was covered in ice and decision to call this one before it really got started. It was a bummer to turn back but probably the best decision. Conditions with snow, wind, and ice were cool to see but not best for today's Mother Lode adventure. Great to hike with Bruce for the first time and hike with Bob and Joe again. We will definitely have to try again...would have been fitting to knock this one out on the 10th anniversary of Joe's first Mother Lode We'll be back.... |
