| partners | | We had in mind the possibility of doing this as a loop to Pine Mtn and Boulder Mtn but with the trail conditions it became clear that just doing Pine was a hike in itself. Previous triplogs have mentioned thick manzanita and catclaw on the upper portions below Pine Mtn and those descriptions were spot on. Another problem is staying on trail as the brush is so thick there really is no trail on some sections. The mile below Rock Tank manazanita is the thickest and getting off trail can cost you time and blood. Above Rock Tank the trail is in the pine's and relatively easy going with the last 1/2 mile up Pine Mtn off trail. Even that was not too bad compared to trail below Rock Tank. Views on Pine were great especially of Four Peaks very close by. Highlights were Rock Tank which had really good water, views on Pine Mtn and Boulder Flat area. We were also surprised to see small pools of water along the top 3 miles of trail. |
