| partners | | With all the fall color on San Francisco Peaks decided to do Bear Jaw Abineau from Lockett Meadow. Cold early start but we had the trail to ourselves going up to the Waterline road. Some of the aspens along this section are at peak and some still showing green but a really awesome stand of aspens Once on the Waterline road it's an easy walk over to the Bear Jaw trail with some decent aspens and views along the way. Coming down Bear Jaw the aspens had already lost their leaves maybe from a freeze or just a lot of wind.
The goal was to meet up with Angela, Kelly, and Ambika who were doing the Abineau Bear Jaw Loop so we managed to link up with them. The Abineau trail is much better than in the past from the avalanche damage. Probably from a lot of use the trail seemed easier to navigate than previous years. Towards the top even saw a bit of leftover snow. Once on the Waterline road again we all took a nice long break and enjoyed the north side views. After lunch continued on to Bear Jaw trail where we said goodbye to Angela, Kelly, and Ambika.
We headed back down the Waterline road towards Lockett Meadow enjoying the afternoon light. The trail section to Lockett this time though was packed with people which I was expecting but surprised at the number. Regardless it's a great section to see this time of year and the weather was perfect |
