| partners | | Hank asked me to do this trip with him after some cancelations and a no response. Hank has been a mountain goat lately and I have been fortunate enough to have been invited along. This trip was a great way to start out Christmas Eve. Hank and I got a reasonable start to the day no O Dark Thirty since we were close to town.
I got a nice tour of the area on our way in to the trailhead. I learned a bunch and enjoyed the company.
One additional exciting part of the trip for me is that this peak is listed on SOTA W7A/PN-048 http://www.sota.org.uk/ and has not been activated by a ham radio operator yet. I packed my HF gear up the hill set up my equipment while Hank did some exploring and on low power using batteries managed to talk to 26 different people from as close as Phoenix all the way to NC, MD, FL, VA, NJ, SD, IA, IN, KS, OR, and WA,. We were on 24 MHz 14 Mhz and 144 MHZ. Using Phone and CW (Morse code). I collected 26 points gave out 4 points to each contact for the peak and had a blast.
Hank is a great friend and hiking partner!
