We met at our usually rally point and headed out to picket post. It was a beautiful morning and I was really looking forward to the hike. We arrived at the trailhead around 0745 and began our trip to the top. The climb was great views were awesome and lots of really good picture taking. On the way to the top I made a few simplex contacts on 2 meters worked some friends in the Mesa area and Maricopa. You have got to love elevation for VHF line of site 70 miles on 5 watts is very cool.
We reached the top and the famous mailbox and the nice bench someone hauled all the way to the top. We took some more photos relaxed I made some more 2 meter contacts and then we noticed something reflecting on the northeast end of Picketpost.
We decided before we headed back down we needed to check this out. I figured it was the signal device the Boy Scouts use each May when they do there mountain top signal event. We hiked over the mesa and investigated it and that is what it appears to be. We also found some other items of interest that area.
After our side trip on the summit we decided to head back down. We made it down in short time and headed back to the Valley for some Mexican food in AJ.
Great trip great company thanks Pam and Van |
