| partners | | Second ring around the rosie turned out peaceful. Bruce tagged on Black Mesa to get in some trails he's never done. Which on map makes the loop pretty mean. I'm a fan of the FW tributary route we took the first round. I'd do either over and over.
Old West Boulder Ridge offers stellar views rising out of the jungled wilderness. A sweet view comes into play near 4542. Looking due south you see the dip in the ridgeline ( closeup! ) between 4562 & 4402.
Bi-annual hikers were out in force on the Flatiron yet nowhere near as busy as Squaw Peak. It's encouraging to see younger generations charm Arizona's favorite hike.
We lunched up between two of the three most visible hoodoos ( as seen from FS 78 ). Next it was straight down to Massacre Falls. It was steep. On the same token my idea of steep has changed over the years. This was more like a hill by Isis standards. The reason I thought it was steep becomes obvious down below. Looking back up it "looks" near impossible... a good illusion.
Wait a minute... backup! The views heading down should be a national press release. Wicked stellar? You bet!
We took the side trip to the top of Massacre Falls. A nice addition if you enjoy cool stuff. From there we scrambled down a shortcut.
While incredible, wildflowers can push this loop into indescribable.

Rechargeable batteries last a long time when they aren't 2 years old. A good hundred full charges, remarkable... nowhere near the 200-500 claims by manufacture. |
