I have been wanting to do this hike for awhile, but could never get anyone to go with me. I can see Table Top Mountain from South Mountain which I hike often, and I always tell myself I need to get up there. Finally just did it by myself and I am glad I did. This is actually a really great hike. It has a nice mix of decent scenery, some elevation gain so you get to work a little, and great solitude. In fact I had the whole mountain to myself this day. The trail itself is really great, not too rocky, and whoever laid it out did a good job picking a route. The fairy dusters were blooming which gave a nice perfume scent to the air. Really the first half of the hike is like walking in a (desert) garden. The second half going up the mountain is steep but not terrible, especially considering the great condition of the trail. The descent is solid, you can really move well without worrying about slipping, except for a couple small spots.

Even the drive in is kind of nice; once you turn off Vekol Road, it is classic Sonoran desert scenery. I will make sure I bring out of towners back here for sure. It is definitely off the beaten path, but offers a similar desert experience as the Superstitions without the winter crowds - on a much smaller scale of course.

A few small single purple flowers, and some yellow bunches of flowers - not brittlebrush though; and a lot of fairy dusters.
