Cool weather to start, but as soon as we started heading uphill, the jackets were quickly shed. My legs were a little tired from yesterday, so I dragged more than I wanted to as the trail got steeper. The more you climbed, the steeper it got. Great views all around made for a nice distraction. We topped out, looked around for a minute, then headed for the high point. Looked around a little there, had a snack, then headed back down. The top half mile or so of the descent was as steep and rocky as we had feared it would be, but the rocks under our feet didn't roll as much as I thought they would. We saw two guys making their way up just below the top, but they were the only other hikers we saw all day. As the grade leveled out, we picked up speed and made it back to the car a little after 12:30. The road wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, there were some soft sandy stretches, and a few spots that required high-clearance, but overall was in decent shape. Great day & great company! Perfect hike for an Arizona desert winter day. |
