I read about this hike in the newspaper years ago and have been wanting to do it. My friend Bruce and I both had the day off and he has a jeep and was interested in going so we did. We got to the trailhead around 10am, signed the log and started walking. There were no other cars at the trailhead parking so we had the mountain to ourselves. It was a warm day with temperatures in the mid-80s. The trail gets steeper and steeper as you walk, and Table Top gets bigger and bigger, but it seemed like it took forever to get to the wash where the trail climbs Table Top proper. Checking RouteScout this was the 3 mile point and we had only hiked half the elevation gain. At that point Table Top loomed huge in front of us. From there onward the trail goes up the very steep side of the mountain with lots and lots of switchbacks. After what seemed an endless climb we got past the switchbacks and found ourselves at the top. We checked out the little radio station (without touching anything - it was marked "Property of the US Gov't" and we don't want to get in trouble with them). Then we continued on the trail around the ridge to the high point with the survey marker. The view from the top was incredible. We could see the Estrellas to the North, Four Peaks on the horizon to the Northeast, and Picacho and Newman to the South, and lots more. It was like being on the top of the world. We ate lunch at the top, and then headed back down. The hike down required intense concentration to avoid slipping on the loose rocks on the steep trail, so not much sight seeing on the way back. All in all a very enjoyable hike and I'm glad to be able to take this one off my wish listl
