| no partners | | had some cousins in town and suggested a picnic and walk-around. They are avid golfers and fortunately had this day off so it worked out well. We picked up the other set of cousins at 60 and Goldfield before making our way out to BTA. I was worried it might be crowded on a holiday weekend but that wasn't the case.
The entrance has changed since I was there. I parked and went to the VC to ask for a token so we could drive down to the picnic area. We found a table under a tree and had our lunch and crantinis before taking a walk in the Demonstration Garden. It's not the best time of year for BTA but we found plenty items of interest as well as some daffodils already springing up along with two or three iris.
We let Bill stay behind and we girls headed off to the Aussie section. I always like to visit Mr. Big and then head on to the palm tree section continuing alongside the creek to the Herb Garden. Before that we stopped across from the blooming aloes to enjoy those and some hummingbirds.
On the way back we detoured around to the legume section and then on to the cactus garden. The cactus garden can always be enjoyed year round and today was no exception. There was an agave that was putting up this giant stalk and in another section the green grass was providing a beautiful carpet for the already budding trees.
It was hard to believe we had only seen such a small section of BTA before it was near closing time. I was glad to see that my cousin Debbie, this was her first visit, loved reading the plant and tree names. One is never sure when you bring them to one of your favorite places if they will enjoy it as much as you do. Fortunately for me, everyone had a good time.
It was a long drive for the out of town cousins as it took them about 1/2 hour to get to my place as they got lost (they still haven't quite figured out our grid system here in PHX) and then another 1 1/2 or so to the Arboretum and then back. But being from Montana, they understand the long drive time plus they got so see a part of the Valley they had not been in yet. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
