Decided to check out the Sonoran Desert Trail. There are lots of interpretive signs with either dying or dead or missing flora. The trail switches back up toward the highway so it's noisy. Saw interesting flora though and it's so nice to have the signs for the flora that was living. Next I headed over toward the Herb Garden via the Smith Interpretive Center Rose Garden, by the Australian and Palm Tree section. I finally found the fall color and delighted at it all though it was spotty with some trees having fall color with still green leaves and no leaves. But it was better than nothing. The pomegranate hedge was pretty much in fall glory with some red pomegranates decorating it like Christmas tree bulbs.
There was some sort of wedding set up going on that I think was for a model shoot so that was interesting. There were also a couple screaming children running around which interfered a great deal with the audio on my movie shooting so I'll have to put in music. I wandered around this area for several minutes before making my way to the bridge where the last of the main fall color was before heading back to the Demonstration Garden to see one of the featured trees of Boyce Thompson. In 2011 the Fall color was much better I thought: [ photoset ]
I was glad to experience the Fall colors in Arizona this season as previous the only fall color I saw was in Wyoming at Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks and on our drive to SLC where I saw hills covered in maples. What a sight that was! I am always amazed at the new things I see every time I come out here to Boyce Thompson. It truly is one of the great joys of my life to visit this Arboretum. From here, it was on to the Hieroglyphics Trail for a quick hike before heading home. Yep, my Black Friday was going well.
Videos are in production. I hope they'll show you how pretty the Fall color was. I think this is the last week for it.
12-3-15 Here they are. I think you'll particularly enjoy the last two:

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
