I thought I had already done this peak but the one I did was called Signal Mountain . I slept fairly well in a wash in front of a sign next to catsclaw.
We strolled out of camp to catch the sunrise which I realized had risen a few hours before. Today would be the first peaks in The Kofacapana. The hottest spot northwest of Marana...The full song will be part of the last trip log here. Day one objective was Signal Peak and Ten Ewe. The trip starts at a nice campsite which we would later take advantage of. Basically head up the wash. Indian Canyon is nice but it does have some brushy spots which will tear up uncovered legs. Then you follow game trails and drainage/canyon and before you know it you are trying to decide which peak is higher. Signal is but not by much. We headed down to check out the signal thingy and then went back up Signal and the adjacent lower peak. Summit brew and awesome views. We scouted our route to Ten Ewe. Some guy named Abbey was here on Signal in 2009 and left a HAZ biz card. He must be a Stronghiker. I may have hiked with him a few times .
Squaw was on full display and looking awesome as were the rest of these cool rugged ceremonious peaks.
The trip over to Ten Ewe was basically backtracking and then hitting a ridgeline and then the saddle. From here it was decision time, do you pick chute number one or whats behind door number two. We went up one and down the other. The down chute was more enjoyable. Just as Ten Ewe came into view, I saw 3. Not sure where the other 7 were Two were wearing the latest in collar fashion and one had his/hers on back order. The views from 10 were also pretty grand and Chums split his summit beer with me. I felt like such an amateur forgetting we were hitting two peaks. Very successful day in a area where it's tough to make a living and survive.
