This sparked my interest while doing that awesome BP Dave1 had setup. I read the hike description for this and figured it would be easy. Parked on the old forest road that leads to Hull Cabin($140 per night sleeps six)and then instead of walking the road I just entered the trees and headed to Hance. You go down Hance about 1.5 to 1.75 miles and you will see one of two routes heading to the saddle. You can see the route as you are descending. If you've ever done any flagstone surfing before and liked it you'll enjoy the first bit. Follow the ridge and then contour and then climb/downclimb cliffout several times and make it to the mesa. I'm sure there are much easier ways. Once at the buttress is where you don't want to start climbing or maybe there are a select few who can. Anyways, I went in with a desert attitude and fell short. But now that I've read a few things about this hike, I will be back. Cool day none the less and the way back was interesting. The things I forgot to pack for both trips today food snacks and socks.. |
