9L and I navigated (and backseat drove) as Barrett kept the Taco on the road and out of the bike lane...
Eventually we found the correct road, ended up in 4wd and attempted to trespass, that didn't work. The locals pretty much gave us the go ahead.
We hiked along a barely used use path to the tip top of one, two, three false summits before we spotted "the big cairn" Apache Peak ahoy!
We each took the easiest route down a drainage, traversed, regrouped, compared notes and traversed some more.
After a 6 foot hop, skip and a scramble down a slippery granite rock face...okay, only I took that way, 9L stayed high and Barrett dilly dallied somewhere in between.
There were two cool little crawl spots...oh! And a dead Fred!
The ruins lay right ahead, three obvious rooms on the outside plus the main attraction built into the boulders.
Talk about a room with a view!!
We whipped gummy bears and red solo cups full of hot coco, hit the spot!
Then 9L and I posed for at least 118 pi mimic shots. Phew!
The climb up the ridge then up and over, up and over, up and finally down and back to the truck was a cake walk!
Then the rain came...good thing I had two rain jackets!!
Followed that up with Vietnamese food and tomb raider...that's one heck of a Saturday! |
