So I woke up Tuesday morning and was quite lucky I'd taken my basic day hiking gear with me...so my manager and I headed out to sail the ship.
The sky was the clearest blue, the breeze chilled me on the rim and kept me cool as we raced to the ship's saddle. Hiking in the canyon has never felt SO right.
We reached the up climb and I noticed a few carefully wedged rocks have filled in the chute to make it an easier walk up to the climb.
At the top we waved to the tourists who had crowded at the overlooks and ate some lunch.
I watched as the clouds rolled in to the south and what looked like rain drenched the north rim. Time to climb down!
We made great time back to BA, somewhere after 1.5 house I was about to pass a family of four, the little boy was probably around 8 years old tripped and told his dad he hated this hike.
The mom let me pass and I happened to spot The Keeper of The Canyon up ahead so I stopped and whirled around and said
"Have you ever seen a face in a mountain?! Wouldn't that be silly?!"
And until we reached the upper tunnel I was their guide and the son and daughter were asking questions and they walked a lot faster and I told them Canyon stories...
I saw the mom later in BA lodge and she thanked me, said the kids had a great time and I really helped.
It truly is good to be back where I belong...to be home. |
