The resort doesn't take too much from the wilderness experience either. The canyon itself is very scenic with towering red walls and lush vegetation and ends in a box canyon in the south fork. My only complaint is the lack of scenic lookouts. There is the vista trail at the beginning and the one at the end with the 'do not proceed further' sign, but I needed more than that. So along the way I found another at the junction of the south and north forks. It's in the 'campsite' looking area with a sign saying 're-vegetaion in progress'. I know they don't want you hiking there, but there's a great 'use trail' with a view down canyon and up the north fork. I even saw a helicopter hovering up this trailless north fork. I'll have to come back here and hike this northside sometime, looks interesting. |
