| no partners | | Decided to head up to Carney today. I had done this route one time previously; about a year ago. On the way up and down we mainly stayed in the creek area. Compared to last year at this time the creek was essentially dry. We made our way out of the creek a few times but preferred to stay in it as it seemed easier to us.
Progressing up through the scree fields was quite interesting. Looking back at the GPS tracks we crisscrossed the main route numerous times in our ascent. The descent was spent mainly on the main route however. As always, it is easier to follow a trail on the way down than on the way up.
When we hit the Ridgeline (2 hours after we left the trailhead) we ran into a group that was heading on their way towards Flatiron. We took off towards Carney and made it 50 minutes later. The views were pretty incredible up top. The summit was ours alone for around 20 minutes before a couple made their way up. The way down took us 2 hours and 24 minutes. Overall it was a pretty fun trip but the next time I will probably head up from Carney Springs trailhead. |
