| no partners | | I just couldn't resist the snow on the mountain. Going up into the mountain the snow started covering the trail right around the Gatekeeper. It wasn't too bad going up, thankfully coming down it had all melted in this area. Arriving at the slick rock area it was basically a slip and slide. I paused for a few minutes to figure out the best approach. I decided to start on up and made it about 3 feet before slipping back down. I put on my micro spikes and shot straight up the area with no issues. Making it up to the saddle was surprisingly easy with the spikes. I thought back to my time doing this same thing a few years ago in the snow and wondering how I ever did it without the spikes. There was a well worn path from the saddle to the top. A few places I had to blaze through fresh snow as I just went my normal ways and apparently it isn't always the way. Making it to the top it was a winter wonderland. It was pretty incredible, with around 6 inches of snow on the ground.
The way back down was definitely slow and treacherous. Thankfully I didn't have any slip ups and made it down in one piece. About 10 minutes from the top I even ran into an old friend I haven't seen in ages. After a few minutes of catching up I continued the downward plod. |
